Materials
Suede: Fine natural leather with a brushed finish that features a soft feel and elegant look. It offers good breathability and high wearing comfort, while gradually adapting to the shape of the foot. The material is both durable and flexible, ensuring comfort in everyday use. Suede is the ideal choice for footwear where the emphasis is on style, comfort and timeless design.
Textile: Textile uppers are a lightweight and highly breathable upper construction solution that uses woven or knitted structures of natural and synthetic fibres. This type of upper is valued in the footwear industry for its extraordinary ability to adapt to the shape of the foot, minimising the formation of blisters and ensuring high user comfort. Thanks to the porous structure of the material, textile uppers allow for efficient heat and moisture dissipation, which is crucial for maintaining an optimal microclimate even under increased physical stress. In addition, modern textile processing technologies allow reinforcement zones to be integrated directly into the knit, achieving an ideal balance between stability and flexibility.
Cork: A natural, sustainable material extracted from the bark of the cork oak tree, which excels in the shoe industry for its lightness, flexibility and shape memory. Its unique honeycomb-like cell structure contains millions of air bubbles that act as a natural shock absorber and thermal insulator. In footwear, cork is most commonly used for insoles and midsoles because it can adapt anatomically to the specific shape of the foot over time, providing individual arch support. It is naturally antibacterial, odour-resistant and, thanks to its ability to insulate, protects the feet from overheating and cold from the ground.
Rubber: It is one of the most widely used materials for the production of soles due to its high mechanical resistance and durability. The main advantage of rubber soles is their excellent grip (traction) on different types of surfaces, which minimises the risk of slipping. The material is naturally flexible, waterproof and effectively absorbs shocks during walking. Depending on the compound, the rubber can be either soft for better contact with the ground or hard for maximum abrasion resistance on rough terrain.
Vulcanized rubber: refers to a sole that is reinforced in exposed places and is aimed at maximum safety, so it is most often used in skateboard models.
is used for products that are made using more environmently-friendly proceses which uses less water, energy and chemicals. Products with international certifications such as bluesign®, the 100 standard by OEKO-TEX® and MADE IN GREEN by OEKO-TEX® are placed under this label.
Cariuma is a Brazilian footwear brand that was founded in 2018 by David Pythons and Fernando Porto. Two friends who decided to respond to the lack of sustainable yet stylish sneakers on the market. Their goal was to create a brand that was environmentally friendly, ethically produced and both comfortable and visually appealing. Cariuma quickly gained popularity for its timeless design inspired by the surf and skateboard culture of Brazil, but adapted to global fashion tastes.
Natural and renewable materials such as organic cotton, bamboo, natural rubber and recycled PET bottles are a distinctive feature of the brand. Cariuma prides itself on transparent production and actively invests in rainforest restoration. For every pair sold, it plants two new trees in the Mata Atlântica region of Brazil. Celebrities who have endorsed or worn the brand include actress Helen Mirren, comedian Whitney Cummings and professional skateboarders Mike Vallely and Leandre Sanders. Cariuma thus appeals to women who seek a balance between style, comfort and a responsible approach to fashion.
